In shadows deep, where moonlight fears to tread, Cancer, the dancer, twirls me 'round instead. With every treatment, a macabre ballet, My tresses fall, in grim bouquets they lay.
"Be positive," they croon, with hollow cheer, While I'm positive I didn't seek this here. A cocktail of meds, a toxic embrace, "But you're alive!" they chirp, with plastic grace.
Is this living? This half-life I endure? Dawn breaks, and pharmacy bells ensure, No rest for the weary, no peace for the damned, In this purgatory of pills, I am jammed.
What to do with this borrowed time, so frail? Degrees and empires, a legacy's tale? "Here stood Madame Paradise, once bold and bright, Whom cancer claimed in the dead of night."
They'll whisper of how I fought, alone and long, But vultures circle, singing greed's song: "What of her fortune? Her worldly gain?" For in death, they say, our worth ascends again.
But what's the point, when the end's the same? From clinic to clinic, a wheelchair's refrain. The creaking of wheels, a mind going mad, In this dance with death, ironically clad.
In the grand waltz of life, we all must spin, But cancer leads now, with a ghastly grin. So I'll dance on, through pain and sorrow, For who knows if there's a tomorrow?
